In Malta, the sub-sector Solid Waste Disposal (part of Waste) was responsible for 0.18 Mt CO₂eq of emissions in the year 2021, which is 8.6% of total emissions in that year. Compared to 1990 (0.05 Mt CO₂eq), emissions have increased by 293.5%. Under existing measures, emissions are projected to reach 0.26 Mt CO₂eq by 2050.
