In België was de subsector Public electricity and heat production (onderdeel van Energie) verantwoordelijk voor 12.86 Mt CO₂eq aan emissies in het jaar 2021, wat 11.8% van de totale emissies in dat jaar is. Vergeleken met 1990 (23.23 Mt CO₂eq) zijn de emissies gedaald met 44.6%. Onder bestaande maatregelen zullen de emissies naar verwachting 13.23 Mt CO₂eq bereiken in 2050.
