In Italy, the sub-sector Solid waste disposal (part of Waste) was responsible for 15.64 Mt CO₂eq of emissions in the year 2021, which is 3.9% of total emissions in that year. Compared to 1990 (13.67 Mt CO₂eq), emissions have increased by 14.4%. Under existing measures, emissions are projected to reach 4.59 Mt CO₂eq by 2050.
